Air Force Opens Up Offensive Attack
One day after defeating the Air Force Academy, the Falcons returned the favor in an offensive explosion against the Tigers. The Falcons scored 19 runs in the first two innings as they cruised to a 37-13 victory over Doane.
Doane did fight back to cut the lead to 19-9 but Air Force scored in each of the first six innings of play to continuously build their lead. The Tiger pitching staff sent nine players to the mound in eight innings of work. Of the 37 runs given up, 28 were earned runs, which led the staff earned run average to rise from 6.80 to 7.78.
Offensively, Doane collected 14 hits while drawing six walks. Evan Bumgarner and Tim Engelhaupt recorded three hits and three RBIs each. Adam Bies added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Luke Henderson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Air Force was paced by Matt Alexander's 6-for-7 effort. He scored five runs and collected 11 RBIs.
Doane will face Dana College on Saturday, March 5, in Crete.
