The play, written by Mitch Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher, is based on Albom's highly acclaimed book by the same title. Veteran performer Heckman portrays Morrie Schwartz.

Admission is $10.

Tuesdays with Morrie spent more than four years on the The New York Times Bestseller List, sold more than five million copies, and was made into an Emmy-winning television film presented by Oprah Winfrey. It is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Years after graduation, a television news program about Schwartz's battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease reunites Albom with his former professor.

"This is a play about the journey of the heart," said Rhonda Lake, who will direct the play. "I can't think of a better time than the holiday season to celebrate the joy of living with this play and to have the honor of seeing Phil Heckman in this role."

Following the performance, a newly commissioned portrait of Heckman will be unveiled. The portrait will be mounted in the Perry Campus Center Board Room to honor the legacy of Heckman, Doane's ninth president who served the college from 1967-87.

It was painted by nationally known portrait artist Steven J. Levin, who is represented by J. Pierce White Oak Gallery in Minneapolis, Minn.
