Endorsement in Special Education
Option 1: Special Education 7-12 (For certified teachers)
Option 2: Special Education K-6 (For certified teachers)
Candidates applying for the Special Education endorsement to be placed
on a Nebraska certificate must provide evidence they have passed the
required Praxis II test (Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications, code 5354).
Program Requirements
These courses make up the 34 hours of Required Courses for "ALL" SPECIAL EDUCATION endorsement candidates. See below for Additional Requirements for Option 1 & 2.
EDS 610 Collaborative Teaching: An Inclusion Model - 3 hrs.
EDS 620 Exceptional Child - 3 hrs.
EDS 621 Advanced Assessment - 3 hrs.
EDS 621L Advanced Assessment Practicum - 1 hr.
EDS 622 School Programming for Exceptional Youth - 3 hrs.
EDS 625 Methods of Teaching Mild/Moderate Special Education - 3 hrs.
EDS 626 Advanced Instructional Modifications and Accommodations - 3 hrs.
EDS 631 Teaching Strategies for Exceptional Children - 3 hrs.
EDS 632 Critical Issues in Special Education - 3 hrs.
EDU 663 Reading/Writing in the Content Area - 3 hrs.
EDS 699 Behavior Intervention Strategies- 3 hrs.
One of the following:
EDU 645 Assessment of Literacy - 3 hrs.
EDU 614 Assessment of Literacy Development - 3 hrs.
EDU 602 Assessment of Learning - 3 hrs.
Option 1: 7-12 Special Education Endorsement
In addition to the above coursework; complete the following for Special Education 7-12:
EDS-680B Practicum for Special Education 7-12
For elementary teachers who wish to add this endorsement you must complete 9 hours in a core content area (math, science, language arts, social science, etc.) and a second practicum experience also in a secondary school.
Option 2: K-6 Special Education Endorsement
In addition to the above coursework; complete the following for Special Education K-6:
EDS-680A Practicum for Special Education in K-6
For secondary teachers who wish to add this endorsement you must complete one reading, one writing, and one mathematics course for elementary students and a second practicum in elementary.
