The Organizational Communication major focuses on the impact of effective communication in business and not-for-profit organizations. This major integrates course work in the fields of communication, business, psychology, sociology, and writing. Students develop skills that are valued and prioritized by employers in today’s workplace.

Examples of learning include how to interact with and motivate people, sell ideas and products, promote organizations and events, build productive teams, and train and develop people. Students experience a positive impact on their skills to work effectively with people across cultures, generations, and world views. There is a strong focus on written and oral communication skills as well as the ethics of human interaction.

Public Relations Specialist

Public relations specialists create and maintain a favorable public image for the organization they represent. They craft media releases and develop social media programs to shape public perception of their organization and to increase awareness of its work and goals.

Fundraisers

Fundraisers organize events and campaigns to raise money and other kinds of donations for an organization. They also may design promotional materials and increase awareness of an organization’s work, goals, and financial needs.

Training and Development Managers

Training and development managers oversee staff and plan, direct, and coordinate programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of an organization’s employees.
