Summer 2021 COVID-19 Mask Update
Dear Doane community,
During the summer months, the number of individuals traveling to and from campus is limited in comparison to the fall and spring. The current status of all campus risk dials has changed from moderate to low risk. There are currently no known cases of COVID-19 on any campus location.
Doane University will adapt our mask policy in accordance with new interim recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. This update from the CDC states that “fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance”. Therefore, masks are optional for fully vaccinated Doane faculty, staff, and students effective Monday, May 24, 2021.
Please note that this only includes individuals who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Doane University highly recommends that all individuals receive a COVID-19 vaccine if you are able. Those that have not received a COVID-19 vaccine are strongly encouraged to wear a mask on campus in accordance with CDC guidance.
Individuals with underlying medical conditions are also encouraged to continue to wear their mask until a greater number of individuals are vaccinated. If you believe you are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, consult with your medical provider to determine the safest option for you. Human resources will work with employees and managers to ensure necessary accommodations are in place for those who are at a higher risk of severe COVID-19 symptoms or hospitalization.
After over a year of wearing masks for the safety of ourselves and others, we understand that this adjustment may produce some feelings of discomfort. Please be respectful of your colleagues' wishes if they would prefer you wear a mask when entering their personal work area. Human Resources is here to support you through this transition and connect you with resources to support your mental health during this time.
Local and campus risk levels will continue to be monitored throughout the summer months. Plans will be adjusted as new information becomes available about the threat of COVID-19 transmission in the community, locally, and nationally.
