Directions Program

Even if you're the new kid, once you've unpacked, you have the opportunity to become a leader. Each school year, around 32 incoming students are selected to participate, and qualifying students may receive an annual Hansen Fellows Award valued at $1,500.

How to join:

  • Apply and be admitted to Doane University by January 31, 2019

  • Have a 3.5 minimum GPA

  • Complete the Directions Program Application by January 31, 2019
  • Complete a resume and a short introduction video

  • Complete the essay questions provided on the Directions Application

  • Have a letter of recommendation sent it

  • Complete an on-campus, Skype, Facetime or Phone interview before February 22, 2019

Membership includes:

  • Mentors who teach you how to get involved and offer guidance on how to kick-off your leadership adventure. They'll also answer all of your life-at-college questions to give you a good start for the next four years.

  • Hansen Leadership Hall; Directions members have access to a two-story suite within this upper-class residence hall. Offering you a comfortable place to study, take a nap, or catch up with your new friends.

  • Weekly leadership classes that will increase your independence and ability to position yourself as an authority by exploring theories, obstacles, and techniques that exist in the leading and developing world.

Expectations:

  • Attending the Hansen Leadership events, such as lectures, workshops or luncheons.

  • Participating in a group service project. As service is the core of leadership, this allows students to give back, and practice their leadership skills in a real-world setting.
