Risk Assessment Factors

Factors contributing to the risk dial assessment include*:

  • Quarantine space available on campus (Crete)
  • Number of positive COVID cases from students, faculty, and staff
  • Significant exposures to someone who has tested positive
  • Student concern
  • Availability of adequate PPE/sanitation inventory
  • COVID-19 behavioral policy compliance
  • Number of positive COVID cases in the county
  • Local ordinances or other government mandates including CDC recommendations

*Factors contributing to the risk dial are subject to change as internal and external conditions warrant.

The risk dial dashboard will be updated regularly to determine safe campus conditions related to classroom operations, athletics, student activities, workforce plans and other campus operations.

Alert Levels

Low (Green)

Doane can operate in high-density environments. Once vaccines and/or highly effective treatments are approved and widely available, and there is low circulation of the coronavirus, prevention practices can be gradually lifted more fully. It is likely that even when immune protection is established, that social interactions remain changed for a duration of time and that re-engineered processes and new technologies persist, so long as they are functional.

  • Classrooms near full capacity.
  • Most employees are back to working on campus, with some exceptions.
  • Shared office spaces.
  • Dining and residential activities with some modifications.
  • Mask guidance - masks are recommended but not required in campus buildings when social distancing can be practiced. Exceptions include: Student Health Office, Athletic Training Office.
Moderate (Yellow)

Doane can operate in moderate-density environments. Doane campuses are open and many protective measures are still actively in place. The underlying threat of outbreak remains, but prevalence of the virus is lower and testing and contact tracing capacities are robust enough to allow some policies to be relaxed.

Instruction is a mix of in-person and remote instruction with online options for in-person classes (hybrid) where practical. Some students and faculty will not be able to return to campus and accommodations should be put in place to enable continued academic progress.

  • Easing of facility restrictions, rigorous cleaning & PPE protocols.
  • Low-density instruction 6 ft diameter per student.
  • Limited specialized facility access (labs, studios, practice rooms).
  • Remote work continues for those who are able to fulfill their responsibilities without compromise to students, productivity and effectiveness. Prioritize staff to campus in order to best serve the Doane Community.
  • Shared offices with distancing and other measures.
  • Strict distancing, face covering, frequent hand washing.
High (Orange)

Doane can operate in low-density environments. Doane campuses are open, but there are significant prevention policies in place which may include limitations on meeting sizes, enforced PPE use, and continued elevated precautions for high risk Individuals.

Significant prevention policies are in place which may include limitations on in-person instruction, meeting sizes, enforced PPE use, screening, contact tracing, and selective quarantining/self-isolation.

  • Remote work continues for those who are able to fulfill their responsibilities without compromise to students, productivity and effectiveness. The intent is to limit the number of people on campus(es) in order to lower the potential spread of COVID-19.
  • Limited access to facilities including use of shifts.
  • Limited small group instruction (<10) for graduate students, high need students, specialized programs.
  • No shared offices for faculty/staff/graduate students.
  • Strict distancing, face covering, frequent hand washing.
Severe (Red)

Doane campuses are closed and individuals are expected to practice self-isolation. Campus and building access are restricted. Remote work is the preferred choice for as many employees as possible in accordance with state/local mandates, with the exception of essential staff. All academic instruction is remote and all residential students must return home.
