Standing Up For Students

Frequently asked questions about the Doane Scholarship Fund

Return to newsletter >

Alumni and friends often ask the Alumni Office how they can help stay connected to Doane.  Our answer always leads back to valuing your time, talent and treasure.   One way to give back and keep our values alive is through the Doane Scholarship Fund.  Plain and simple:  It brings students to college.  Just as important:  It keeps them here.

A.  The Doane Scholarship Fund impacts our students by providing student scholarships and financial aid, allowing many students the opportunity to attend Doane College that may not have the resources to otherwise.  Gifts to the Doane Scholarship Fund touch almost every aspect of day-to-day life.  They help sustain our academic programs, fund cutting edge technology and facilities, and provide for our beautiful campus landscape.

Q:  My budget is tight.  If I give a small gift, will that even make a difference?

Annual gifts, no matter what size, make a difference to Doane.  Lots of small gifts are as significant as a few larger gifts.  Any size gift also increases our overall giving participation rates.  High participation rates not only help secure more dollars from individual givers, but many grant-making and college ranking organizations take this percentage into account.  Therefore, any gift, no matter the size, has a lasting effect on Doane College.  Currently, Doane College’s alumni participation is 14%.  Our goal is to increase that rate to 20%.  Your gift, small or large, to the Doane Scholarship Fund will help us increase that percentage.

As the giving percentage increases, so does the total amount of gifts.  The graph listed below shows the Doane Scholarship Fund goal for this fiscal year (ending June 30, 2013).
