An examination of the primary education theoriesyand social forces that have shaped Americanyeducation with emphasis upon writers whoseyphilosophical thought has had a particularlyystrong impact upon contemporary educationalypractices. Educational practices surveyed includeythe learning process, instructional design,yteaching strategies, classroom management,ydiversity within the classroom, history andyphilosophy of education, and national/state K-12ycontent standards. The course includes clinicalyfield experience in elementary, middle, andysecondary schools. Course content providesyexploratory activities for students to develop anyinterest in and commitment to teaching.yPrerequisite: Sophomore standing and minimumycumulative grade point average of 2.30.
