Postcard Project Volunteers

The Postcard Project is a joint effort between the Alumni Council and the Office of Admissions to recruit and retain the next generation of students to Doane University. Through the Postcard Project, you can encourage prospective Crete students to attend Doane and also congratulate newly enrolled students at our adult learner campuses by sharing your favorite memories and life lessons.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone who has attended Doane.

How do volunteers help?

Depending on your campus affiliation, you will be given a list of prospective students that have visited the Crete campus from November - April or recently enrolled in the College of Education or College of Professional Studies in Lincoln, Omaha, or Grand Island.  Your packet will include the appropriate amount of pre-labeled Doane postcards and directions.  Prospective Crete campus students are high school students who have applied, been admitted, and are making their college choice from a small number of colleges and universities. College of Education and College of Professional Studies  students are adult learners who have recently enrolled and need an extra touch from alumni to encourage them along their journey.  Volunteers are asked to write a short message to these students.

Does the Postcard Project really impact Doane’s success?

Research shows that correspondence like these postcards can play a huge role in a prospective student's choice and retention. Forty percent of the total prospective students that visited Doane's Crete campus in the previous year actually attended the next fall.  Focused support from the Alumni Council and volunteers after students visit is a good attempt to increase that 40% statistic.  As of February 2016 the Alumni Council has sent nearly 1,000 postcards to students that visited the Crete campus, and they can use your help!  We may not be the sole reason for record breaking class enrollment but every little bit helps! This is a great volunteer opportunity for alumni near and far.
