Ad hoc faculty committee on student writing August 2008-February 2009
Chair
Doane College, Crete, NE

In August of 2008, I was asked to select and lead a committee to explore how Doane could enhance student writing on campus. This work was not meant to involve curriculum modification. Rather, the committee was asked to consider a co-curricular mechanism or program that would support the existing curriculum and provide help for students and their writing. To this end, the committee studied the writing centers at several schools similar in size and mission to Doane, including all of its peers and aspirants. As chair of the committee, I also began an intense literature review, including study of writing center and composition theory. This work culminated in a report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs: it recommended the development of a student-staffed writing center at Doane College.
