Westminster Shuts Down Tigers
NAIA Division I Westminster College used a 34-11 start in the first 18 minutes of play to run away with an 84-55 victory over Doane at the Disney Classic in Orlando, Florida. Westminster, ranked No. 12, shot 50 percent in the first half while hitting six three-point baskets. Doane used an 11-1 run in the final two minutes of the first half to pull within 13 points going into the break.
Westminster continued to shoot well in the second half, knocking down 57.7 percent of their shot attempts in the final 20 minutes. They were 6-of-11 from three-point range in the second half and finished 12-of-24 for the game. Doane, on the other hand, was held to 35 percent shooting from the floor while hitting 3-of-15 three-point attempts. The Tigers held the edge in rebounding, 35-31.
Dane Cruz led the Tigers with 15 points on the evening. Kolby Hamilton added nine points off the bench. Ben Streck and Scott Neuhalfen shared game-high honors with six rebounds each. Doane was plagued by 23 turnovers which led to 27 Westminster points.
Westminster was led by Blair Prowse's 19 points. Jordan Jacobs added 17 points. Both players were 4-of-8 from three point range.
Doane will have the rest of the holiday season off and be in action again on January 4 when they travel to Omaha to take on the Mavericks of UNO. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
