Westminster Runs Past Tigers
The Tigers faced one of their toughest opponents of the year in Westminster College on Saturday morning in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Griffins, ranked No. 21 in NAIA D1, defeated Doane, 87-69, on the final day of the Hoop-n-Surf Classic.
Doane fell behind early, trailing 16-4 through the first six minutes of play. They chipped into the lead, cutting it to six points (25-19) with 10:39 remaining in the first half. However, Westminster ran off a 9-0 run over five minutes to extend the lead to 15 points. The Tigers were able to cut the lead to seven points by halftime.
In the second half, Doane cut the lead to four points (53-49) with 14:36 remaining but the Griffins struck back once again, answering with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to re-establish the lead.
Lindsay Anderson led all scorers as she paced Doane with 29 points. She added five steals and four assists. Vanessa Munter added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers.
Alexis Tucker led Westminster with a double-double, 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Griffins, which have five starters average 10-plus points per game, had four players in double figures. Doane was able to contain the three-point shooting of the Griffins as they finished 4-of-15 (.267) from behind the arch. They came into the game averaging 10 makes per game with a .427 three-point shooting percentage.
