Wesleyan Spoils Homecoming
The Tigers were shutout for the second time in three games as rival Nebraska Wesleyan spoiled homecoming with a 19-0 win over Doane. The Tiger offense was held to 143 yards and eight first downs for the game. JR Artozqui threw for 89 yards on six completions and rushed for 25 yards on 10 carries. Alex Renshaw led the ground attack with 34 yards. Starting running back Justin Nelson and offensive lineman Zane Pfefferle were out due to illness.
The defense put on an excellent showing for the home crowd as they contained the Nebraska Wesleyan attack. In NWU's four wins this season, the Tigers held them to their lowest offensive out-put of 272 yards. It was also the fewest points they scored in a victory. Dustin Lind led the team with 12 tackles. Lance Foster, Scott Bruns and Josh Warren had nine tackles apiece. Foster had the team's lone interception, the first of his career. Bruns had 1.5 sacks in the game. Warren blocked a PAT attempt by Nebraska Wesleyan. Simon Mitchell came back from a foot injury suffered in a scrimmage a week before the season to collect eight tackles.
Doane will travel to Mitchell, S.D., on October 14 to take on Dakota Wesleyan University. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
