Warrior Free Throws Down Tigers
Brent Cole scored 31 points for the Tigers but it was not enough as Midland Lutheran College came away from Crete with an 86-75 victory. MLC received 21 points from Chad Cruise and 20 points from Pat Bryan.
The Warriors used hot shooting throughout the game. They started the game going 12-for-16 from the floor, 75 percent. But as the Warriors cooled down to end the first half, Doane got hot and was able to pull within two points at the intermission break. The Tigers trailed 42-40 at halftime. MLC shot 55.6 percent in the first half while Doane shot 56.7 percent.
The Tigers took their only lead of the game early in the second half. Doane started the second stanza with a 5-0 run and lead 45-42 with 18:14 remaining. MLC then answered with a 7-0 run and they never looked back. The Warriors took a double-digit lead late in the half. MLC shot 57.9 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 56.5 percent. Doane shot 48.4 percent in the second half and finished at 52.5 percent.
Joining Cruise and Bryan in double digits for the Warriors was Luke Simons, who finished with 11 points. He was 6-for-7 from the free throw line, exactly what Cruise and Bryan did from the charity stripe as well. MLC shot 27-of-34 from the line compared to Doane's 5-of-8. Doane was called for 22 fouls compared to the Warriors' nine.
Cole was joined in double-figures by Tyler Cyboron's 11 points off the bench. Cyboron was 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Dane Cruz added 10 points for Doane.
The Tigers will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday to take on the No. 2 Cougars. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm and can be heard on KDNE 91.9 (Crete).
