Tigers Tie Sioux Falls, Take No. 2 Seed
The Tiger men's soccer team did just enough on Saturday evening in the final regular season game, coming away with a 0-0 tie versus Sioux Falls. The tie left the Tigers and Cougars tied for second place in the GPAC standings. Doane received the No. 2 seed in the GPAC Tournament through a tie-breaker after Briar Cliff defeated Concordia later in the evening. The win for BCU moved the Chargers ahead of Dordt in the conference standings and was the difference in the tie-breaker. Doane defeated BCU while USF fell to the Chargers. Had Dordt finished ahead of BCU, then the seeds would have been reversed.
Sioux Falls out-shot the Tigers, 21-16, for the game and 13-6 in shots on goal. Doane keeper Matt Bickley finished with 13 saves for the Tigers while Adam Wemhoff led Sioux Falls with six.
Doane's best scoring opportunity came late in regulation when Devon Strecker had a chance for a go-ahead goal when he attempted a penalty kick. However, Strecker's shot was high.
The Tigers will host Dakota Wesleyan University in the First Round of the GPAC Tournament on Thursday, November 4, at 6:00 PM.
