Tigers Struggle Out West

Doane went to Irvine, Calif., and faced some stiff volleyball competition while coming away with a 1-3 record.  All three of the Tigers' losses came against ranked opponents.  Doane was very competitive in each match they played, seeing some games just slip away.

Tigers vs. Westminster College
Doane was unable to win game one of their match versus No. 25 Westminster College and eventually fell in three games.  Game one ended 33-31 and the Tigers were unable to bounce back from the tough game loss, dropping the remaining two games 30-25 and 30-27.

Jessy Livers posted 11 kills in the game while Kari Hochstein added 10.  Ashley Sluka had 18 assists and 11 digs.  Kaylee Lubken had a team-high 14 digs.

Tigers vs. California Baptist
Doane struggled early against the No. 3 team in the NAIA, dropping the first two games before picking up a win in game three.  CBU won a hotly contested game four.  The final scores were 22-30, 10-30, 30-28, 27-30.

Leading the way was Chelsee Marvin who had 14 kills.  Hochstein added 10 kills and four blocks.  Sluka posted 16 assists while Livers led the team with nine digs.

Doane was plagued by 15 service errors and 13 serve receive errors.

California Baptist was led by Yudelka Bonilla's 17 kills.

Tigers vs. Concordia (CA)
The host team controlled the match throughout, winning in three games (30-14, 30-17, 30-23).  No. 4 Concordia hit .363 as a team while Doane was limited to a .101 attack percentage.

Marvin posted nine kills and two blocks for Doane.  Hochstein and Nicole Skolnick had five kills each.  Heather Davison led Doane with 15 assists while Sluka posted 13.  Sluka had a team-high 10 digs.

Concordia was led by Stephanie Sheele's nine kills.  Concordia had 50 kills in the match.

Tigers vs. Westmont
Doane's only win of the weekend came in the final match of the invitational.  Doane defeated Westmont College for the first time in school history, taking out the Warriors in five games.  The Tigers dropped the first two games before heating up in the third game.  The final scores were 29-31, 21-30, 30-19, 30-27, 16-14.

Hochstein led the Tigers with 22 kills and 10 blocks.  Marvin added 14 kills and five blocks.  Livers posted 13 kills, two assists and 25 digs while Skolnick had 11 kills and 27 digs.  Davison notched 32 assists with Sluka adding 29.  Lubken notched a team-high 36 digs.  Doane posted 14 blocks as a team.

Westmont was led by Laura Trudelle's 12 kills.  The loss was only the second of the year for the Warriors (6-2).

Doane will travel to Blair to open up GPAC action on Wednesday.  The Vikings are 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in the GPAC, defeating Mount Marty College in four games.
