The Tigers received a balanced scoring attack from their starters as they came away with an 81-77 victory over Morningside College on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs were receiving votes in the NAIA poll and coming off a victory over No. 23 Northwestern College.
Doane held a 19 point lead in the second half only to see Morningside hit 12 of their next 18 shot attempts as the Mustangs rallied to take a six point lead with 5:02 remaining.
The Tigers didn't let up as they converted on five of their six possessions over a four minute span to regain the lead. Todd Kraus capped the game by converting a pair of free throws with 0:00.9 remaining.
Doane was led in scoring by Brent Cole. Cole scored 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He also had a team-high seven rebounds. Dane Cruz added 14 points and Kraus chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Wade Janssen finished with 11 points for Doane.
Morningside was led in scoring by Jack Rother's 20 points. Seth Atkins had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Doane will travel to Hastings College on Wednesday, January 10 to take on the Broncos. The Broncos are receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm in Hastings.
