Tigers Post 14 Automatic Marks

The Doane College Track & Field team took on several competitors at the Concordia University Invitational. The Tiger athletes came away with 14 automatic NAIA qualifying marks and 12 provisional qualifying marks.

Highlighting the day once again was BJ Lawrence in the sprints. He broke the school record in 100m dash, a mark he set two weeks ago in Hastings. In the 100m dash, Lawrence ran a time of 10.33. He also posted a time of 21.15 in the 200m dash and leads the NAIA in both events.

Ben McCaleb and Thomas Hodges had provisional marks in the 100m dash. McCaleb went 10.66 in the finals while Hodges posted a time of 10.71 in the prelims.

Edwin Ronoh won two events for the Tigers. In the 800m run, he posted an automatic mark of 1:53.30. He had a provisional mark in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:56.60.

Virgil Mitchell won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.06, a season best. He ranks third in the NAIA in the event. He took second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.11 that ranks fifth in the NAIA. Both of his marks are automatic NAIA marks.

The Tiger relay teams added a pair of victories. In the 4x100m relay, the team of Adam Baxa, Ben McCaleb, Chris Busby and BJ Lawrence posted an automatic NAIA time of 41.50. The 4x400m relay team posted a provisional mark of 3:16.75. The team consisted of Virgil Mitchell, Jory Pflasterer, Alex Reynolds and Edwin Ronoh.

In field events, Brian Hubbert took second in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 46-04.25.

Doane had three automatic marks in the shot put and discus. In the shot put, Jacob Clouse (52-02.00), Kyle Bartlett (51-02.25) and Chase Trecek (51-01.50) posted automatic marks. Zack Lindsley (165-00), Alvin Voss (159-08) and Vince Krejci (157-04) notched automatic marks in the discus. Darin Smith added a provisional mark in the discus with a throw of 153-04.

Clouse picked up a provisional mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 170-07.

In women's action, Jillian Ourada led the way with two NAIA marks for the Tigers. In the 100m hurdles, she won with a time of 15.00, a provisional mark. She posted an automatic mark in the 400m hurdles as she won with a time of 1:03.38.

In field events, Rae Gordon posted an automatic mark in the triple jump with a leap of 37-08.75. Shelby Meier added a provisional mark with a jump of 37-07.75.

Whitney Collins posted a provisional toss in the shot put with a mark of 43-07.00. Haley Mondt hit a provisional mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 163-08.

Five Tiger women also won events but did not hit NAIA marks. Kalli Brannagan won the 200m dash with a time of 25.67. The 4x400m relay team posted a time of 4:02.82. Team members were Allison Hartnett, Alyssa Straube, Amanda Woodward and Jessica Steinkamp.

Sarah Hinman won the discus for the second time this week as she posted a toss of 135-01. Ashton Henderson won the javelin with a mark of 122-08. Leah Petersen tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 11-03.75.
