Tigers Host Doane Relays
The Tiger track and field teams put together good efforts in attaining 10 automatic NAIA marks and 15 provisional marks at the Doane Relays on Friday and Saturday. Conditions were nearly ideal, especially when rain was forecasted for the entire weekend.
On the men's side, six automatic marks were hit. The Tigers also had nine provisional marks.
Kedrick Kelley hit a provisional mark in the 100m dash with a winning time of 10.77. D'Artagnan Dai'Re ran an automatic time in the 200m dash, sprinting to a 21.65 first place finish.
Edwin Ronoh posted an automatic time in winning the 800m run with a time of 1:52.90. Jens Scholl hit a provisional time of 1:54.57 in the race.
Virgil Mitchell won the hurdles events, winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.41. He won the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.06.
The Tiger relay teams were solid. The 4x100m team finished first and hit an automatic mark with a time of 41.48. The 4x400m team was second with a time of 3:18.53, a provisional mark. The 4x800m team won with a time of 7:48.89, a provisional mark. Doane won the sprint medley, a non-NAIA championship event, with a time of 3:33.17.
In field events, Tyler Milligan placed second with a jump of 6-07 in the high jump. He hit a provisional mark. Maurice Smith won the long jump with a mark of 23-03.25, an provisional mark. Brett Jorgensen was third in the triple jump as he went 46-00.25, a provisional mark.
Jared Schuurmans won two events for the Tigers with two automatic marks. In the shot put, he hit a mark of 53-03.50. His discus throw was 174-06.
Jake Eckhardt finished seventh in the hammer throw and hit a provisional mark of 161-04.
Ross Smithey won the decathlon with 6,306 points which is second in the NAIA and will likely qualify him for the NAIA national meet. The Top 16 marks qualify and there is a less than one month remaining in qualifying.
In women's action, Deejay Silcott won the 200m dash with a provisional time of 25.51. Viviana Arreola finished second in the 10,000m run with a time of 39:10.98, a provisional mark.
Jallan Holmes won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.87, an automatic mark.
The women's relay teams were successful, winning the 4x100m relay with an automatic time of 48.30. The 4x400m team posted a provisional mark of 4:01.24 as they placed fourth. The 4x800m team was second and hit an automatic mark of 9:34.87. The sprint medley won in a time of 4:31.46.
In field events, Leah Peterson placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 11-03.00, a provisional standard.
Abby Schlueter won the triple jump with an automatic mark of 38-00.25. Janelle Weber was second with a provisional mark of 37-04.00.
The Tigers will have a variety of action this next week with the Drake Relay, Nebraska-Kearney Invite, Hastings Last Chance GPAC Qualifying Meet and Nebraska-Lincoln Open on the slate for the student-athletes.
