Tigers Fall to Bellevue in Pool Play
Doane put on a strong showing in the first match of pool play at the NAIA National Tournament but it was not enough to hold off Bellevue University. The Bruins topped the Tigers, 3-2. Game scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 19-25, 15-10 in favor of Bellevue.
The Tigers were strongest in games one and four, the two they won. In game one, Doane hit .372 and in game four they posted a .410 attack percentage. However, in games three and five they hit below .133 as a team.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Chelsee Marvin. The Crete native pounded out a match-high 18 kills and finished with a .381 attack percentage. Terra Andreasen finished 15 kills while Jessy Livers and Kellie Peterson added 11 kills apiece.
Ashley Sluka dished out 31 set assists while Heather Davison added 29 assists.
Behind the service line, Doane picked up three ace serves, one each from Sluka, Livers and Peterson.
Defensively, the Tigers collected 100 digs in the match. Emily Schwisow led the way with a match-high 32. Sluka and Davison added 14 each while Nicole Skolnick picked up 10.
At the net, Doane received two assist blocks from Marvin, Livers and Andreasen as the team finished with five total blocks.
Bellevue also placed four players in double digits in kills, led by Kali Schnacker and Maureen Wardeen's 16 kills apiece.
Candace Clow dished out 64 set assists while picking up two ace serves.
Doane will face Lindenwood University in pool play on December 3 at 1:15 PM. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
