Tigers Fall in Heart-breaker to NWU
Doane suffered yet another heart-breaking loss, falling to Nebraska Wesleyan 69-68 in overtime on Wednesday evening in Lincoln. The loss drops the Tigers' record to 7-11 overall.
Doane led late in regulation but back-to-back three-point baskets by NWU's Jake Spurgeoun sent the game into overtime. In the extra stanza, Spurgeoun once again threw a dagger in the hearts of the Tiger faithful in attendance as he hit a three-point basket with 0.1 seconds remaining in the game.
The Tigers were led on the evening by Jake Johnson's 23 points as he was 6-of-10 from the floor shooting. Brett McFarland added 12 points for the Tigers.
Doane was impressive at the free throw line, hitting 29-of-32 free three attempts.
Dylan Aylward led NWU with 19 points. Ryan Thramer added 13 and Spurgeoun finished with 12.
Doane will host Northwestern College on Saturday, January 10. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM at Fuhrer Field House.
