Tigers Fall at No. 24 Bethany
The Tigers struggled in game one against No. 24 Bethany College, falling 12-2 in six innings. The game ended when Bethany broke open a 10 run lead and invoked the 10-run rule. Doane bounced back in game two but four errors led to five unearned runs and the Tigers fell 6-3 as they moved to 0-4 on the season.
Game One (Bethany 12-2, 6 innings)
The Tigers were limited to five hits and committed seven errors as they played their first game in more than two weeks. Trevor Buchholz (0-2) took the loss for Doane as he allowed eight runs, five earned, over 3.1 innings of work. He only allowed three hits and struck out three. Chris Plourde relieved Buchholz and gave up four runs, one earned, in the final 2.1 innings. He gave up six hits during his outing.
Choc Bowen led the Tiger offense with two RBIs on his one hit. Bryan Dutcher and Chris Kilmer scored the Tiger runs for the game. Bret Schomer, Tim Engelhaupt, Chris Williams and Dutcher also had a hit each.
Game Two (Bethany 6-3)
The Tigers collected seven hits, each for a different player, but four errors plagued Doane's chances of cracking into the win column. Schomer picked up two RBIs in the game while Mitch Vernon added one. Bowen, Vernon and Williams each had a double for the Tigers' only extra base hits of the day.
Dutcher (0-1) took the loss as he allowed six runs, one earned, over six innings of work. He allowed eight hits and walked three batters while striking out four.
The Tigers host Peru State College on Thursday, March 15, in a 3:00 p.m. first pitch. Only one, nine inning game will be played at Tuxedo Park.
