Tigers Fall as Concordia Rallies
The Doane women's soccer team was unable to hold on to a pair of leads on Wednesday evening, dropping a 4-3 decision to Concordia University in Crete. The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-6-1 overall and 4-5 in the GPAC.
Doane jumped out early on the Bulldogs, scoring twice in the first 14 minutes of play. Ally Tamerius scored both goals for the Tigers, the first was six minutes into the game with assists going to Mia Juarez and Morgan Karloff. Juarez hooked up with Tamerius again to give Doane a 2-0 advantage.
Concordia came right back a minute later to cut the Doane lead in half as Jamie Sanchez scored on a pass from Hannah Denk. Denk then tied the game in the 20th minute.
In the second half, Doane took the lead in the 61st minute of play as Clare Koeppe connected off the passing combination of Tamerius and Sarah Medina.
With 19 minutes remaining, Concordia was granted a penalty kick and Mallorie Blanck beat Doane keeper, Kelsey Stark, to tie the game at three. In the 88th minute of play, Kelly Ross picked up a pass from Jordan Donohoue and got the shot past Stark for the game-winner.
Doane will play at Dordt College on October 23.
