Tigers Earn Key GPAC Win
The Doane volleyball team picked up a key GPAC victory on Friday evening as the Tigers held off Briar Cliff University, 3-1. The game scores were 25-8, 11-25, 25-13, 26-24.
The Tigers (18-5, 5-2 GPAC) controlled game one, thanks in part to Nicole Skolnick running off 12 consecutive points. Jessy Livers added to the attack, collecting six of her 13 kills in the first game.
Doane could not find a rhythm in game two and the Chargers (14-8, 4-3 GPAC) took the game convincingly. However, in game three, Doane responded right back and shut the door on Briar Cliff to take a two games to one lead.
In game four, the two squads battled back and forth early before Doane eventually set themselves up for three straight match points. The Chargers battled back and fought off each one to tie the game at 24-24. Chelsee Marvin collected a kill to give Doane the lead and Terra Andreasen spiked a kill for the winning point. Andreasen finished with a game-high 14 kills with Marvin adding 10 kills.
Ashley Sluka posted 22 set assists in the game. Emily Schwisow dug up a game-high 32 digs. Marvin also led a strong attack at the net as Doane finished with 15.5 blocks. Marvin was in on nine of the blocks. Kellie Peterson added six total blocks and Lisa Lord chipped in with five.
Briar Cliff was led by Nicole Hoogeveen and Chehala Pace's eight kills apiece. Geri Heiman posted seven kills and seven total blocks for the Chargers.
The Tigers will play host to No. 11 Morningside College at 5:00 PM on October 11. The game will be joined in progress on the Tiger Sports Network following men's soccer action.
