The Tiger women's soccer team battled undefeated Ottawa University on Saturday afternoon and after 110 minutes of play, the two squads ended in a 1-1 tie. Doane is now 2-1-1 on the year while Ottawa is 3-0-1.
Ottawa struck first with a goal from Kelsey Hanna in the fifth minute of the game. Ottawa controlled the first 30 minutes of the game but on a Doane corner kick in the 31st minute, Kelsie Grgurich headed the ball into the back of the net for the tying goal. Mia Juarez took the corner kick and received an assist.
Doane had more scoring opportunities in the final 15 minutes of the half including a shot taken by Samantha Exstrom in the final seconds of the half. However, Lauren Peil came out of the goal area for Ottawa and made a stop just before the final seconds ran off.
In the second half, Ottawa dominated the first 30 minutes again before Doane found an extra burst late. After an Ottawa foul, Doane took a direct kick and following a shot attempt by the Tigers that deflected off of Peil, Grgurich but the rebound in the back of the net for what appeared to be the go-ahead goal. However, Doane was called for offsides and the goal was disallowed.
Ottawa had two scoring chances in overtime to Doane's one but both keepers kept the score knotted until the final horn.
Kelsey Stark finished with 17 saves for the Tigers, including 10 in the second half. Peil picked up nine saves for Ottawa.
Doane will face York College on September 14 before starting conference play next Saturday.
