Strecker's Two Goals Lifts Doane in 2OT
In a must win situation in order to host a conference playoff game, Doane was able to rally for a 2-1 victory over Northwestern College in double overtime. The win gives Doane a home playoff game against Dana College and the No. 4 seed in the GPAC tournament.
Doane fell behind in the second half as Adam Potter picked up a goal in the 66th minute of play. However, four minutes later, Devon Strecker made a hustle play chasing down a loose ball and was fouled in the penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick. Stecker converted for the Tigers and tied the game at 1-1. Doane had other opportunities as well in the second half but Red Raider keeper Jeff Lanser made some key saves.
In the first overtime, Doane had the only shot. The same was true in the second overtime but this time Devon Strecker's shot beat Lanser and the Tigers took the victory in the 103rd minute. Chris Kavinsky was strong in goal once again for the Tigers, collecting three saves on the day.
The win moved the Tigers' record to 9-8 overall and 8-4 in the GPAC. Doane will host Dana College at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 3.
