Seven Tigers Score in Non-Conference Match
The Doane men's soccer team posted a quiet first half, scoring one goal, but exploded in the second half to score six goals and cruise to a 7-0 win over York College. The Tigers even their record at 3-3 on the year as they head into conference play on Saturday in Mitchell, S.D. against Dakota Wesleyan.
In the 25th minute of play, Jake Miller scored the first goal of the game for the Tigers. Devon Strecker picked up the assist for Doane.
To open the second half, the Tigers scored twice in the first four minutes. Monday Akogwu picked up his first goal of the season in the 48th minute after missing the start of the season. Strecker scored a minute later for his first goal of the year.
Juan Padilla scored the second straight game off an assist from Andrew Moore to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Tom Heavey matched Miller for the team lead with three goals as he scored off a pass from Bryce Petersen in the 64th minute. Petersen followed with the sixth goal of the game off a pass from Brendan White in the 73rd minute. White set up the final goal with a pass to Justin Hill who finished off the play with his first goal of the year.
Matt Bickley recorded three saves in 76 minutes of play and Greg Beall picked up one save in 14 minutes as the two keepers combined for the shutout. Luis Pulido had 15 saves for York College.
