The Tiger men's track and field team got the season underway by hosting the Ward Haylett Invite on Saturday. The Tigers hit three automatic NAIA qualifying marks and five provisional marks.
Jared Schuurmans hit two automatic marks, winning the shot put and placing second in the weight throw. In the shot put, he threw 16.90m (55-05.50) to out-distant second place by 5.5 feet. In the weight throw, he posted a mark of 16.45m (53-11.75).
Alvin Voss posted an automatic qualifying mark in the weight throw with a toss of 16.00m (52-06.00). Jacob Clouse hit a provisional qualifying mark with a toss of 15.97m (52-04.75). The automatic mark in the weight throw is 16.00m, Clouse is right on the edge of qualifying automatically.
Nathan Teten placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60m (15-01.00) and hit the provisional qualifying mark.
In the high jump, Tyler Milligan placed second with a mark of 1.98m with Derek Wegner taking third place with the same height. Both hit provisional qualifying marks.
The Tigers won five of the six longer distance running events. Vince Martinez took the 400m dash with a time of 52.29.
Justin Cox won the 600m run with a time of 1:27.66. Jamil Chehade ran a time of 2:03.60 in the 800m run to win. Jarid Holliday won the mile run with a time of 4:36.04. Sufian Kimo took the 3000m run with a time of 9:12.85.
