Schroeder Named Academic All-District
On Thursday, ESPN The Magazine released the 2009 Academic All-District teams for football and Doane College running back Garrett Schroeder was named to the Second Team All-District 7 list. District 7 is comprised of NCAA Division II & III, NAIA and Junior College institutions from Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada.
Schroeder, a junior from Blue Hill, Nebraska, has made his way back from a knee injury suffered at the beginning of last season to become Doane's first honoree on this award. The running back is averaging 3.7 yards per carry this season and is currently the No. 2 back for the Tigers. He adds eight receptions for 39 yards and a completion of a halfback pass for 26 yards to his offensive resume this season.
He is the son of Robert and Barbara Schroeder and currently holds a 3.94 GPA with a major in psychology. Garrett is one of three players from NAIA-only institutions to be represented on the list. Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) member Morningside College had one and Nebraska Wesleyan, who is an NCAA Division III institution in most sports, had three.
