Doane College is among the best colleges and universities in the Midwest, according to The Princeton Review.
The nationally known education services company selected Doane among the 153 colleges chosen for its "Best in the Midwest" section of its website feature, "2013 Best Colleges: Region by Region," which posted Aug. 20.
Its regional best colleges constitute only 25 percent of the nation's four-year colleges.
According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review's V.P., Publishing, "From hundreds of institutions we reviewed in each region, we selected these colleges and universities primarily for their excellent academic programs. We also took into account what students attending the schools reported to us about their campus experiences."
The Princeton Review winnowed its list of several hundred schools in each region based on institutional data collected directly from the schools, its visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of staff and college counselors and advisers who gave recommendations. Princeton Review also takes into account student reports about their campus, in categories ranging from the accessibility of professors to financial aid.
The 153 colleges selected for the "Best in the Midwest" list are located in 12 states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The Princeton Review also designated top colleges in the Northeast, West, and Southeast.
The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in its Best Colleges: Region by Region Web site section.
