The men's soccer team inched closer to a possible home field berth in the GPAC Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Mount Marty College on Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Tigers 10 on the year, their first since 2004.
The Tigers and Lancers battled to a scoreless first half. Doane out-shot the Lancers 18-3 in the stanza.
In the second half, Mount Marty scored three minutes in on a goal from Angel Duran. The Tigers were able to answer quickly, scoring three minutes later, as Devon Strecker knocked in a pass from Monday Akogwu.
Doane took the lead in the 71st minute of play as Jace Peters headed in a corner kick from Andrew Moore to put Doane up 2-1. The Tigers were able to keep the ball around midfield or in Lancer territory for the majority of the final 19 minutes to hold on for the victory.
Chris Kavinsky finished with four saves while Derek Otton collected 13 for the Lancers. Doane out-shot Mount Marty 31-6 and 15-5 in shots on goal.
Doane will travel to NAIA No. 23 Hastings on Monday, October 27, for a 6:00 PM contest. The game is a make-up from the postponed game on October 22.
