Peru State Spoils Home Opener
The home opener was spoiled as Peru State shut down the Tiger bats, limiting Doane to two hits. The Bobcats collected 14 hits and took advantage of three Doane errors to come away from Crete with a 12-2 victory.
Chris Williams took the loss as he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. He walked five batters and struck out six.
Leading 5-2 heading into the seventh inning, Peru State opened the game as they scored six runs on four hits and two Doane errors. Kyle Schachenmeyer was charged with all six runs but only two were earned runs. Matt Rediger closed out the game, pitching 2.1 innings while allowing a solo home run in the ninth inning.
Collecting the Tiger hits were Choc Bowen and Derek Smith. Bowen came around to score in the fourth inning after reaching base on a hit-by-pitch. He reached home plate when PSC's centerfielder dropped a fly ball in the left-center gap. Smith scored after his hit when Bowen collected a two-out single in the sixth inning.
The Tigers will travel to Texas for Spring Break. They will face Huston-Tillotson, Concordia (TX) and Trinity during their time in Austin and San Antonio.
