Northwestern Upsets Tigers in GPAC Play
Northwestern College pulled off an upset of the Tigers on Saturday evening in Orange City, Iowa, topping Doane 2-1 in GPAC play. The loss was the first for the Tigers and snapped a six-game win streak.
Northwestern scored the first two goals of the game, three minutes apart. Mario Garcia and Harri Edwards posted the Red Raider goals. Doane pulled within a goal in the 27th minute of play as Monday Akogwu scored for the Tigers on an unassisted goal.
Doane was unable to get one of their six second half shot attempts into the net as they fell to defeat. The Tigers tried to make a late push, including a shot that was just wide of the post that could have tied the game.
Matt Bickley finished with three saves while Jeff Lanser had four saves for Northwestern.
Doane will take on No. 4 Hastings College on Tuesday, October 5, in Hastings.
