Next Omaha Alumni Chapter event

The Omaha Alumni Chapter has been re-established to allow alumni in the area to reconnect with their Doane community.

Alumni Relations Director Anne Golden Ziola ‘04, ’10A said there was an alumni group in Omaha that started in 1991 called the River City Regional Alumni Chapter. Over the years, several chapter leaders moved away or had priorities change in their lives causing the group to become inactive.

“Omaha is a very prevalent area,” Ziola said. “We have lots of alumni there and we have more prospective students from that area now. It’s the perfect time to get back in that community.”

The third chapter event will be held Friday, July 12 at Midtown Crossing from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The chapter will help alumni network as well as reach out to prospective students.

During the event, which will be hosted by Ken ’59 and Marge Fridrich, President Jacque Carter will discuss Doane’s expansion into Omaha. Doane is planning to open an Omaha campus for Doane’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

The previous two Omaha Alumni Chapter events have had over 100 attendees.

“That just shows there is a need and a want for people to reconnect and learn more about the Doane of today and where we are headed in the future,” Ziola said.

The Alumni Council, consisting of alumni from different generations and campuses, has been proactive in restarting the chapter, but will hand over the reigns to Omaha alumni to plan future events.

Omaha alumni will have the chance to map out the chapter’s goals as it fulfills a dual role of serving alumni and the college.  This will range from renewing fellowship and serving as a channel of communication to promoting activities like student recruitment, annual contributions and career placement.

“As Doane grows the alumni are really there to support that and move forward with us,” Ziola said. “It is vital to reach out to those alumni that will play a key role in our college’s future.”
