Lightning Delay Can't Slow Down Red Raiders
Northwestern College didn't let a four hour lightning delay prevent them from defeating Doane 56-0 on Saturday night. The game was delayed a half hour, to a 7:30 pm start, due to traveling complications for the Red Raiders and was haulted around 7:50 pm because of lightning. With 2:28 remaining in the first quarter, Northwestern had already jumped out to 21-0 lead and were driving. The Red Raiders took advantage of two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown in the first quarter. Northwestern scored a touchdown on their first five possessions.
Justin Nelson led the Tiger rushing attack with 38 net yards and D'Artagnan Dai'Re added 18 yards on three carries. Dai'Re also added 141 kickoff return yards in his first game as a Tiger. JR Artozqui came off the bench to go for 5 of 9 passing for 52 yards. Bryan Dutcher was 5 of 14 for 52 yards and three interceptions. Nelson had three receptions for 38 yards while Robbie Trent had three receptions for 29 yards.
Dustin Lind had 10 total tackles for the Tiger defense. He also had one forced fumble. Josh Warren had eight tackles and Seth Styskal had seven. Wali Muhammed and Jake Wolfe each collected a solo sack, Wolfe's counting for an 11 yard loss.
The Tigers will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, on September 23 to take on No. 16 Morningside College.
