International Aspects of Whaling Subject of Presentation at Doane

Dr. Kurk Dorsey, associate professor of history with the University of New Hampshire, will present "Moby Diplomacy: The International Whaling Commission at 60," at Doane College Nov. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. in Whitcomb Lee Conservatory.

The presentation includes a diplomatic and environmental history of whaling in the Antarctic.

Dorsey is a specialist in U.S. foreign relations and environmental history. He earned a Ph.D. from Yale University.

He is the author of the prize-winning "The Dawn of Conservation Diplomacy: Canadian-American Wildlife Protection Treaties in the Progressive Era."

Other works include "City, County, Empire: Landscapes in Environmental History" (ed. with Jeffry Diefendorf) published  in 2005.

While at Doane, Dorsey also will visit an American Environmental History class.
