The Doane volleyball team jumped out and took game one in their match with No. 18 Hastings College on Wednesday evening in Crete, but the Broncos battled back to take the next three and defeat the Tigers, 3-1. Game scores were 19-25, 27-25, 28-26, 25-18 in favor of the Broncos.
Doane took game one behind Jessy Livers' (Lincoln, Neb.) six kills. She finished the match with 14 and a .300 attack percentage.
In games two and three, the Tigers were close to closing out the Broncos but Hastings fought off three game-points in each game and it changed the momentum heading into game four. The Broncos jumped out to a 10 point advantage in game four before the Tigers battled all the way back in the game. The rally unfortunately took too much out of the Tigers and Hastings finished with a victory.
Chelsee Marvin (Crete, Neb.) led the way with 16 kills. Terra Andreasen (Bellevue, Neb.) added 13. Doane struggled at times with the Hastings block, finishing with a team attack percentage of .126.
Ashley Sluka (Milligan, Neb.) collected 20 set assists with Heather Davison (Lincoln, Neb.) adding 18. Both setters finished with two ace serves apiece.
Emily Schwisow (Beatrice, Neb.) had a team-high 28 digs in the contest. Livers added 16 digs for Doane. At the net, Marvin posted six blocks and Livers added five.
The Tigers will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University on September 30. Game time in Lincoln is set for 7:30 PM.
