Hastings Rallies Past Tigers
The Tiger football team suffered a tough loss to Hastings College on Saturday as the Broncos scored two touchdowns in an 11 second span late in the fourth quarter to rally from 11 points down. The final score was 38-35 in favor of the Broncos.
Doane scored 19 unanswered points to take a 35-24 lead with 9:38 remaining in the game. Hastings marched down the field to score on a 16 yard pass play and converted a two-point conversion after Doane was called for off-sides on the point after try. On the next Tiger possession, Maurice Smith was stripped of the ball and Hastings returned it 25 yards for the go-ahead touchdown.
The Tigers had two scoring opportunities late in the game, having a field goal blocked and another hit the left upright with one second remaining in the game.
JR Artozqui had a solid game for the Tigers, throwing for 232 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for a touchdown. His longest pass was 46 yards, caught by Antony Ritton. Jaremy Puthoff ran for 75 yards on eight carries and collected a 59 yard touchdown run while Smith ran for 50 yards and a touchdown.
The defense was led by Seth Styskal's 12 tackles, seven solo. Zach Brenner and Josh Warren added nine tackles each, five solo.
The Tigers will play host to Briar Cliff University on October 20 at 1:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
