Doane jumped out to an early 21-5 lead and held on to defeat College of St. Mary, 70-56, in Omaha on Tuesday evening. The Tigers are 1-0 on the season. The Flames were able to close gap to seven points on one occasion while Doane's largest lead was 18 points.
The Tiger defense forced 24 turnovers while holding the Flames to 29-percent shooting from the floor. CSM was 4-of-21 from behind the three-point line for 19-percent. Doane also had their struggles from the floor, shooting 38-percent. Each team had their share of free throws as Doane went 19-of-25 (76-percent) while CSM went 20-of-27 (74-percent).
The Tiger offense was led by the senior combination of Amy Fox and Lindsay Anderson. Fox posted a career-high 20 points. She added seven rebounds and three steals. Anderson added 13 points, six assists and four steals.
Hannah Helman added 10 points while Lindsay Shaw posted 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Nicole Anderson notched a team-high 11 rebounds, four on the offensive end, and five assists. Tiffany Mockenhaupt added six rebounds and two assists. Doane out-rebounded the Flames 49-39.
