Four Unanswered Goals Lifts Doane
The Tiger men's soccer team played possibly their worst half of the year to open up the mid-week match with Concordia but an explosive final 22 minutes lifted Doane to a 5-4 win. The Tigers improved to 10-5 on the year and 7-2 in the GPAC.
Concordia jumped out to 3-0 lead at halftime. Their goals came in a 15 minute stretch. Doane broke onto the scoreboard right away in the second half as Devon Strecker put in a corner kick from Andrew Moore. However, the Bulldogs came back with a goal off a direct kick by Tim Soenksen to go ahead, 4-1.
The excitement for the Tiger crowd started in the 69th minute of play as Kyle Smith picked up a goal for the Tigers to cut the lead in half. In the 80th minute, Devon Strecker scored on a penalty kick to pull Doane with one. Three minutes later Smith scored on a direct kick to tie the game at 4-all. Just 45 seconds later, Strecker scored the go-ahead goal as he picked up a loose ball in front of the net.
Strecker finished the game with three goals while Smith added two for the Tigers.
Doane will play in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday as they take on Dordt College.
