The Tigers dominated the GPAC opener from start to finish as they walked away with a 78-61 victory over Concordia University in Crete.
After the score was tied 4-4 with 17:16 remaining, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run. The Tigers received a three-point basket from Todd Kraus and jumpers from Jack Lind and Dane Cruz. Cruz' first basket was a sign of things to come.
The Tigers continued to build their lead and took a 19 point advantage into the half. Lind had 12 points at halftime on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor and Cruz was 5-of-6 from the floor for 11 points.
Doane opened the second half on fire as they were able to build a 27 point lead with 11:22 remaining. Concordia put a small run together but Cruz scored 11 consecutive Tiger points to keep the Bulldogs down. During the 11 point run by Cruz, he was 5-of-7 from the floor.
The Tigers built the lead back up to 22 points before Concordia went on a 11-2 run to cut the lead to 13 points.
The Bulldogs fouled in hopes of getting the ball back with Doane missing free throws, however the Tigers answered the challenge. Drew Denker and Tyler Cyboron sank their free throws to bring the lead back up to 17 for the final difference.
Dane Cruz finished the game with 27 points and five assists. Jack Lind capped the evening with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Taylor Sieber added 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. For the game, Doane shot 54.7 percent.
Concordia was led in scoring by Jon Ziegler's 30 points. He added six rebounds.
