Due to the power outage in the Communications Building, many classes and events scheduled for this week have been moved. For continued updates and location changes please go to www.doane.edu/communications-update.
Doane College’s student-led Relay For Life event has raised $58,883.21 to date in support of the American Cancer Society and the battle against cancer.
The main event, held 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. April 12- 13 in the George and Sally Haddix Recreation and Athletic Center, brought hundreds of supporters from the campus and community. Attendees participated in traditional Relay For Life activities like the survivor walk and luminaria ceremony. Additional events included jail and bail, multiple live concerts, and the Miss Relay pageant.
Relay is the trademark service event of Doane, with nearly half of the student body as well as a large cross-section of faculty and staff participating in some form. The college is in its eleventh year of hosting an annual Relay for Life event.
Last year, participants were able to raise $70,689 for cancer research. This amount earned Doane the No. 1 spot in the High Plains Division and the No. 1 spot in the nation for Per Capita Fundraising for colleges and universities with similar enrollments. The college has also ranked second in the nation for fundraising in previous years.
The goal for this year was $75,000. Fundraising can still be done and will count toward this year’s goal through June 30. If you are interested in donating, please visit www.doane.edu/relay-for-life-event.
