Doane Wins Thriller over Bulldogs
The Tiger volleyball team picked up a key GPAC victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Concordia University 3-0 (-22, 35-33, -26). The Bulldogs were receiving votes in the latest NAIA national poll. Doane improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC while Concordia fell to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC.
Game two provide much excitement for the 500-plus fans in attendance. The game went back and forth as both team had multiple game points. Doane was able to take the game and carry the momentum throughout the rest of the match.
Doane was paced offensively by Kari Hochstein's 11 kills and Chelsee Marvin's 10 kills. Hochstein also led the defensive charge at the net with nine assists blocks. Ashley Sluka notched 23 assists with Heather Davison adding 20. Davison also had three ace serves while Nicole Skolnick added two. Skolnick led the team with 15 digs. Kaylee Lubken added 14 digs for the Tigers.
Concordia was paced by All-GPAC performer Katie Werner. Werner ended the game with 15 kills and seven blocks. GPAC Setter-of-the-Week Kelli Ziegler had 20 assists to go with six kills, four blocks and 22 digs.
Doane will travel to Hastings on Friday and Saturday to play in the Bronco Invitational. The Tigers will open play against defending NAIA National Champion National American University. Later in the evening, Doane will play Park University. Both games are scheduled to be broadcasted by the Tigers Sports Network, pending phone line availability.
