Doane Wins Again in Tough Environment
The Tiger volleyball team, ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, closed out the road slate of their regular season schedule with a three-set victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln on Wednesday evening. Game scores were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17 as Doane improved to 22-4 overall and 13-1 in the GPAC. The Prairie Wolves, ranked No. 19 in NCAA D3, fell to 22-4 and 11-3 in the GPAC.
Doane controlled the first two games, jumping out to double-digit leads throughout each set. Game three was tougher, with Nebraska Wesleyan holding a lead at 15-13. The Tigers out-scored NWU 12-2 down the stretch. Doane had eight kills on their final 12 points.
For the match, the Tigers used a balanced attack. Ashley Axmann finished with a match-high 15 kills while Terra Andreasen added 13 kills. The Doane middles, Susan Rollman and Emily Max, posted 12 kills apiece.
Heather Davison finished with 43 set assists while also leading the team with two ace serves and 18 digs. Lisa Lord added six set assists to go with three kills.
Doane finished with three team blocks, two assist blocks by Max. In the back row, Desiree Erikson and Nicole Skolnick finished with eight digs each, behind Davison's match-high.
Doane will host No. 18 Dordt College on Saturday, October 30.
