Doane Welcomes New Students During Fall Orientation
An Orange and Black Dinner and candlelighting ceremony will kick off activities Saturday, Aug. 26 for Doane's new first-year students and transfer students during Fall Orientation.
Some students have already arrived for fall sports, and the remaining new students will move in to their residence halls Saturday. Following the candlelight tradition in Cassel Open Air Theatre that evening, students will then enjoy PlayFair, an interactive experience on Simon Field.
Students will spend the first couple days at Doane meeting with their faculty advisors, as well as with their Orientation Leaders (current Doane students) and Orientation groups.
On Monday, the students will enjoy a trek downtown to become acquainted with the local businesses and receive lots of free stuff. Well-known hypnotist (and Doane favorite) Frederick Winters will later entertain the students in Heckman Auditorium, utilizing Doane students as volunteers.
A community service/appreciation activity is scheduled for all new students on Tuesday, followed by a meeting providing important information.
Classes begin Wednesday, and students are all invited to attend the college's annual Convocation on Thursday, followed by a campus-wide picnic.
