The Doane women's soccer team pulled off a big upset in conference play on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Dordt College, 1-0. Dordt is only two years removed for the GPAC crown and has been one of the toughest opponents for the Tigers in recent years. The win improved Doane's conference record to 5-5.
Both teams were scoreless in the first half of play with Doane holding a 9-6 shot advantage. In the second half, Doane was able to break through in the 71st minute as Kelly Baer hit Courtney Richards with a pass and Richards finished the play for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.
Kelsey Stark finished the game with six saves in goal for the Tigers.
Doane will close out the regular season with a home match-up with Sioux Falls on October 30 at 5 PM. Unless a few upsets occur in mid-week match-ups, Doane will be playing for a higher seed but will likely be on the road to open the conference tournament.
