Doane Tops Dordt; First Win Since 2002
Doane rallied in games two and four to defeat Dordt College 3-1 (30-26, 30-26, 31-33, 30-26). The win marked Doane's first victory over the Defenders since 2002 when Doane won in the GPAC Tournament and NAIA Region IV Tournament. The Tigers last won the conference title that same year.
Kari Hochstein led the Tigers with 21 kills and eight blocks. Jessy Livers also added a big game for Doane as she pounded down 17 kills while recording 22 digs and a game-high four ace serves. Chelsee Marvin and Ivie Speer added 11 kills each. Heather Davison led the Tiger setters with 33 assists while Ashley Sluka added 30. Sluka also had three ace serves as Doane posted 10 in the match. Kaylee Lubken joined Livers for team-high honors with 22 digs. Amy Janky added 20.
Dordt was led by Larissa Veldhuizen's 20 kills and six blocks. Kendra Potgeter added 17 kills with Kristen De Ronde posting 13 kills. Emily Van Voorst notched 62 assists for the Defenders while Dorinda Hibma had a game-high 23 digs.
For the match, Doane recorded 71 kills on a .262 attack percentage. Dordt finished with 64 kills while posting a .204 attack percentage.
Doane (10-7) will host Midland Lutheran College on October 2, junior varsity contest scheduled to start at 6:00 with the varsity at 7:30.
