The men's soccer team ran their win streak to seven with a 6-1 victory over Briar Cliff University. The win ties the school record for consecutive wins and improves the overall mark to 7-3 and the GPAC record to 4-0. Doane is currently in first place in the GPAC.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before halftime behind two goals and an assist from Devon Strecker. Andrew Moore and Jordan Schafer posted assists on Strecker's goals. Wes Erickson and Bryce Petersen added the remaining goals in the first half.
In the second half, Chris Hedgecock got the Tigers on the board again with a penalty kick goal. Petersen added his second goal of the game in the 67th minute off an assist from John Thurman.
Briar Cliff scored their only goal of the game on a penalty kick by Thomas Hunt.
Chris Kavinsky finished with four saves in 64 minutes of play for Doane while Andrew Busovsky posted two saves in the final 26 minutes. Buddy Goodenkauf, 2007 Second Team All-GPAC, allowed six goals while collecting eight saves. Kyle King closed out the final 22 minutes and added one save for Briar Cliff. Doane out-shot BCU 22-10 in the game.
The Tigers will host Dana College on October 1 at 7:15 PM in Crete. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
