Doane Surpasses Goal for Area Campaign
In early December, donors gathered in the Whitcomb Lee Conservatory on the Doane College campus in Crete to celebrate achieving and surpassing the $160,000 goal for The Doane Area Campaign in Crete and Saline County.
"The wonderful support we receive from Crete and Saline County is an investment made in the education of our local students and a testament to the integral relationship between the community and the college," noted vice president for Institutional Advancement and Marketing, Dr. Jerry Wood. "And it was great to see so many of the donors come out in a snowstorm to celebrate with us during the busy holiday season."
Actual commitments by the Victory Celebration totaled $161,744. As of December 17, donations have increased to $178,703. Gifts are accepted throughout the college's fiscal year ending June 30, 2010.
Kelly and Dr. Jim Jirovec were chairpersons for the community portion of the campaign. Tracee Fairbanks, math professor and head women's basketball coach, led the faculty/staff campaign.
At the December 6 celebration special guests were local students and their parents who are supported by the scholarships and grants made possible by local donors. Other than gifts designated for specific purposes such as a building or the endowment, all dollars are used to support students from Saline County high schools.
"Success even in a challenging economy can show the true measure of community support for Doane College," said President Jonathan Brand. "We wish to thank everyone who gave for their generous support."
